Scribble is one of the youth gang that calls themselves Stash Riders – stash meaning stash of, well, de facto drugs. Except in this world there is no media or drugs any more – just Vurt. Vurt meaning the dream world that is apparently composed of collective dreams of humanity – that also includes any dreams created by old media. And corporations now manufacture and sell Vurt feathers to the population instead. And those feathers give access to manufactured dreams – legit, bootleg or very official.
Yes, of course they are addictive.
Vurt has warped reality enough that humans, dogs, robots, dream creatures from Vurt and shadow creatures from netherworld can interbreed and world is full of variants that can have up to four different kinds of parents.

Especially because it is about Scribble who lost his sister/girlfriend to Vurt when she was replaced by some weird alien creature (with flesh that is drug to vurt-addicted). And he tries to find a way to get her back when cops (some of which are robot/shadows creatures) are out to get his gang for whatever. Especially when the gang’s attempts lead to even more seedy parts of now-independent Manchester and unofficial and unpublished parts of the Vurt.
Plot is essentially typical cyberpunk noir plot except that Vurt replaces cyberspace, drugs, simsense recordings, replicants and so on. And almost replaces guns.
